The scheme of Kendriya Vidyalaya was adopted by the Govt. of India in the year 1963 on the basis of recommendation of the second pay commission. At first 20 Regimental Schools were taken up as Central School (C.S.) known as Kendriya Vidyalaya to impart education to the children of transferable Central / State Govt. employees. Later on, the same facilities have been extended all over the country and at present there are nearly 900 KendriyaVidyalayas. It is an autonomous organization under Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and the Minister of HRD, Govt. of India is its chairman.
